The unique Easter on Folegandros island
"from house-to-house"

Folegandros Easter

Easter on the Cycladic island Folegandros is unique as the Pangia's icon (Virgin Mary) is removed from the monastery and taken in procession from house-to-house. Locals open their doors to welcome the icon and the followers with tidbits, wine, raki and sweets.

The procession lasts for three days and is followed by the locals all over the island.

On Easter Sunday, the icon passes through Chora and Kastro, the Venetian castle, on Monday it travels to Ano Meria and on Tuesday it heads for Petoussis and Livadi, ending up at the port Karavostassis where is starting a seaside trip. Easter in Folegandros is an an amazing experience.
